About the event

This term is sold out, there will be another course launched for term one next year under the webiste events tab, register your interest through the website contact section or to studio.lomandra@gmail.com. If there are the numbers I will launch a second afterschool course next term to accomodate (Monday 22 January to Thursday 28 March).

In these weekly workshops teens will learn how to realize their concepts through the use of a huge variety of different art materials. Chelsea Lomandra has been teaching all of these workshops to adults and kids for many years locally and interstate. These workshops are for teens with an interest in visual art, students need no prior experience. Some of the materials we will use this term include the list below. No term will be a repeated, each term will be tailored to the students who are in the class and their interests.

This is a perfect course for homeschoolers and mainstream school students alike. The subjects are to a professional level of art material knowledge, giving them the knowledge they need to be able to pursue art outside of their curriculum. Throughout the course we will be creating an extensive portfolio for each student which will also serve as a visual diary including notes about the types of art materials used and how they were applied for future reference.

Course kit (this kit will be used every week)

  • Mixed Media Canson Art Book A5 300gsm:

I chose a 300 gsm mixed media journal by Canson because it is suitable for use wet and dry media without bleedthrough or cockling. All of the demo journals I have are on high quality mixed media paper and therefore the results the students get will be consistent with the samples. I chose the  A5 size because with the amount of detailing we will be working in, they will need to work in a size that is viable to finish in a reasonable amount of time. I found A4 was too much work per page to be a manageable amount of work.

  • Posca marker black and white PC.1M bullet shaped 0.7mm:

Posca markers are a water based paint marker and these are the ones I have found through experimentation across many brands and different nibs to be the most reliable, durable and last well with lots of use. These are what I used in most of my sample journals

  • Uni pin pen 0.4:

These pens in this size are the most reliable and don’t tend to dry out or wear down too quickly when used correctly. They are also pigmented so don’t fade if the work is framed and they are waterproof, which is very important when working in the mixed media techniques we will be applying.

This is a one off $65 bundle received at their first workshop included in your term ticket.

About the facilitator:

I am an artist based in Moreton Bay Region, I specialise in a broad variety of media including ceramics, pigments making, natural dyes, illustration, mixed media layering and printmaking. My practice has been operating in South East Queensland and interstate for over a decade. Throughout the years I have taught techniques at a variety of different events. What I love the most about facilitating is getting the chance to help people grow through nurturing their creativity and igniting curiosity. My goal is to empower my students with the knowledge of art materials and techniques so they can create anything they can imagine.
